Giclées

A Giclée, pronounced 'Zhee-Clay', is a fine art reproduction usually produced in very limited editions. It is a specialized ink-jet print, created at a higher quality, with a longer life span, than what can be produced with the usual standard desktop inkjet printer.

Giclées are transferred onto archival quality canvas or paper, using pigment-based inks rather than the dye-based inks that are used in lower-cost inkjets. These pigment-based inks can last from 100 to 200 years without significant fading. Giclées are usually created using a larger format printer that specifically uses pigment-based inks and that holds a higher number of different colour ink cartridges. The more inks used, the more sophisticated the colour range. With the resulting superior colour and detail, it is often difficult to immediately tell the difference between the original artwork and the Giclée.

If desired, a collector may request that a Giclée be personalized with a remarque (a small addition painted onto the Giclée) by the artist to create a unique gift or one-of-a-kind addition to an art collection.
